We’re in the home stretch. I’m a little behind but not by much. All in all, I’m happy with how it’s been going.
Let’s be honest, a measly five thousand words in two days isn’t going to stop me from making 50K by midnight tomorrow.

I haven’t been updating the blog in the last year or so.
Work has been chaotic to say the least. It’s an excuse, not a reason. I’ve ranted about that and other things in real life almost constantly, there’s no need to rehash that here. It’s not relevant or important anymore.
I will try to pick things back up again here.
Things are getting better, slowly. Summer’s coming and there’s meat to grill or smoke, there’s fun to be had. Some of this stress is lifting and it’s time for me to dust things off and get writing again.
I’m going to be posting more, continuing The Expensive Universal Instrument, talking about other projects and maybe even posting some reviews here and there. I enjoy posting, I enjoy writing…this can only be something good.
Word count so far: 29103 (haven’t posted today’s yet)
Days I missed quota: 0 (yay!)
Fun had: A metric fuckton (That’s an industry term).
Body count: 1 (a redshirt, but it’s early)
Actual space pirating: Surprisingly little but again, it’s early
How am I doing?
After a maudlin evening, I’m dusting myself off and coming up swinging. It’s been a very full week and I’m psyching myself up for a massive session of writing tonight.
But first, a pause for cuteness (and inspiration for me):
Ain’t she cute? A budding artist for sure. I don’t even mind that it ain’t writing. There’s time. She’s not two yet.
So, this week:
A few quick updates for today:
- Writing and word count is going well. I had fun last night tweeting @ratherastory and enjoying her encouragement as we both reached quota.
- Speaking of quota, I’ve passed the 50% mark, I’m more than halfway to 50K , which is great.
- I’m giving up on “The Successful Novelist”, on the ride home last night I listened all the way through the section on “plot” and frankly I’m annoyed. I’m really glad this stuff worked for him, it is clear that it did. It offers me nothing new and I find it so removed from my reality that it gives me no inspiration, no new ideas and in fact is turning me off writing and that simply will not do. If anyone reading this has any audible.com recommendations, I’ll be able to consider them!
- I’m finding I’m really enjoying Nathan Lowell’s Trader’s Tales series (I am currently reading “Half Share”) and I would definitely recommend it to anyone reading this blog. Go get it! I might try to review it a bit later this week or the next.
That’s pretty much it for today, gotta run!
