I made it! Phase one complete! 50011 words at 9h40pm (plenty of time to spare). It wasn’t easy. I seem to have caught a severe head cold and my sinuses are aching. Now, I have one day of break tomorrow and I start in on phase 2, another 50K in August! Wish me luck.
Thank you all for your support.
Well, I’ve just hit 46K this morning. It’s stupid early but I couldn’t sleep, might as well use the time.
We’re almost home for the July session.
Today, we’re taking the munchkin to a nearby beach with some friends and family. After that, my lovely wife will be going out with friends while I am left to finish the first stage of this crazy thing. 3000 words by midnight tonight. Camp NaNoWriMo’s deadline is tomorrow, but I prefer following the 50 in 30 rule and take tomorrow OFF. I’m starting to have get a cold and I think it’ll be nice to be lazy one well earned day.
Next week I am on vacation, which will be awesome for both word count and other writing related activities. I can’t wait!
Last night I hit the 40K mark (woohoo!) and I also finished reading “Full Share” from Nathan Lowell. What a great series! I highly recommend it.
Now I’m a bit at a loss as to what I want to read next. I have a lengthy pile of new books as well as old favorites on deck (both on my Kindle app and in paperback). I’m just wondering what’s more conducive to writing? Is it better to re-read an old favorite that inspired you to write, a classic that dazzles with brilliant prose or would it be better to take a chance on something you haven’t read before?
What do you guys out there think?
Some of what’s on the “to read” pile below.
There are some tunes that just don’t go well with the morning commute.
Today I’ve learned it is impossible to drive under the speed limit if you are listening to Judas Priest’s Freewheel Burning or Ride of the Valkyries.
They are, however, excellent for word count in certain circumstances.
That is all.
I hit 38K last night and had a lot of fun writing a scene from Beth’s POV as she shakes down an informant.
I revived the old Peel pub of my youth a little and I look forward to having it be a nice bit of scenery more and more in this story. I gave a little homage to my recently deceased friend and based the owner’s character after him. I think he would have been pleased to own the old Peel pub if he could have.
I plan to hit 40K and more by tonight, putting me very much on track to hitting 50K by Saturday midnight.
Stay tuned folks! Thank you for your continuing support.
Among the many people and things that are keeping this crazy summer project of mine afloat (thanks to all of you out there btw!) I have to say that the very best in the software/tool category is yWriter.
It’s Tuesday and it feels like Wednesday or later, this is the rare time where this is a good thing.
I cruised by 35K yesterday and my current goal is to hit 40K by tomorrow night (natch). I’ve got some good stuff on deck and I can easily fill 15K with it. I am good to go.
Writing group on Sunday was fun and productive. The weather was perfect to sit outside, so I made the most of it. I got to discuss writing and writing related matters with two of the most intelligent people I know. I got some great feedback as well.
They managed to put into words what I sensed was wrong with my short story “Kenneth” and I intend to do a serious rewrite in September taking those notes in consideration. That was a great learning experience. I will try to do better and I can’t wait to see the outcome!
We brainstormed my WIP and came up with some really great ideas and some things that I need to think about. More and more, I see that I’ve neglected my characters in planning this thing. It’ll be something to consider when I rewrite in a few months.
I also got a chance to discuss their works, which is something that I’m very interested in. I want to help as much as they help me. In helping them, I learn.
All in all, it was a success and charred meat was had in celebration! It made for a great day in a great weekend.
