Well it happened. I skipped a day. I guess that’s bad news.

Still, there’s a lot of good news.

TGIF (NaNo Day 3)

Day 3 dawns (well dawned a few minutes ago) and so far I’m still on track. I’ve met my second 2K goal.  I’ve cruised past 4K without too much anxiety and I’m pleased.

Boy am I glad it’s Friday though.  It’s been a long week.

So far so good. (NaNoWriMo day 2)

I’m mostly recovered from NaNoWriMo day 1. Who knew that a mid-forties human who’s pretty out of shape needed his sleep (Well I did, but I frequently do foolish things). Last night I slept.

I hit my goal of two thousand words for the day and passed it by a bit. I had planned to continue, build a buffer for the inevitable crash but I was too tired. Still, I’m pleased and a tiny bit surprised how easy it went. I expected resistance (and I still do. First week of NaNoWriMo typically is a honeymoon phase. We’ll talk next week.)

Today continues. I’ve quickly gotten a hundred words down. Yes, that’s basically a minute’s worth of writing but it basically primes the pump for the day. It means I’ve started and I can chip away all day to get to my daily two thousand.

I will ask any readers out there to forgive the slight spam this month. I am finding that writing a few words OTHER than my current WIP also primes the pump. Clearing the guns as it were and helps get things flowing. I just don’t always have anything much to say, which makes daily blogging a little strange to me, but hey, it’s my page and I might as well use it.

Space Pirates is feeling good right now. The opening scene is done and I’ve had some really really cool ideas on the fly that I didn’t have a few years ago. I’m looking forward to the weekend. I’m hoping to maybe carve out a couple of hours to get in a long session rather than 30 minutes here and there.

I’m still looking for that zone, but I have a feeling it’s not far away. Things are stirring.

Anyone out there doing NaNo? How’s it going so far?

It has begun!

Oh yeah. I stayed up til midnight. I wrote just over 500 words. This is no mean feat for me and I’m paying so much for the lack of sleep today.

Totally worth it.

I’m gonna sneak in some more words at work and make sure to hit 2K before the day is done. Feels good so far. I’ll update the word count thingy later…after coffee and more words.

Oh I got myself a fancy book cover for this story:

Happy Halloween! On your mark! Get set…

I’ve got a slight case of the butterflies.

Tonight, we’ll take kiddo out in search of that sweet sweet Halloween swag (of which I will struggle not to partake, damn being diabetic).  There are only so many of these evenings left as she is growing so damn fast!

After that…National Novel Writing Month!

Are you starting at the midnight hour?  I’m going to try.  Tradition and all.

How are your preparations going?

Where’s the fun? (On the road to NaNoWriMo)

It’s been 19 days since I posted about my preparations.   Turns out I don’t follow instructions (even my own) too well.   I’ve been all over the place mentally, emotionally and physically.  Thinking, taking notes and not really getting much done.  I had (still do) high hopes this November would kickstart my writing, but I wasn’t feeling it.

As always, a conversation with my SO pointed out what I wasn’t seeing.

Rough outline done!

Posted by Frank Cote on October 13, 2017

I’ve got a rough outline that I’m pretty happy with.

I’ve had a couple of breakthroughs.  I’ve identified a few things that really didn’t work with my last attempt at this story.  I’ve killed off some ideas, cleared some plot bunnies and added a few more.

The story is both more streamlined and more complex.

It will be the first time I have a cast of several main characters and viewpoints.   It’s a challenge but that’s ok.

Now on to fleshing out those characters!

Preparations

It’s mid-October (almost) and stuff is starting to percolate.

In an unusual confluence of coffee and a rare good night of sleep, I’m starting to plan for November.

It’s nothing too dramatic, but I’ve given it a lot of thought and I’ve come up with a few things I feel I should do.  We will see if they work.

Fall is here…that means NaNoWriMo

Enough’s enough.  I’m going back to the one sure thing that gets me writing.

(Thanks to my lovely wife)
