A january day

It’s been hectic lately.   Time just slips away.

Today’s a bit different and I’m taking the opportunity to make the most of it.

It’s kind of annoying setup.   Had a medical appointment early this morning.   I have another mid-afternoon.  This means taking a personal day but it also means that due to the vagaries of public transport schedules, there’s no point in going home in between to relax.

Instead, I’ve packed my trusty laptop and I’m hanging out at the old train station.  I’m having a good ol’ writing jam.

Events of the last few days have encouraged a nostalgic bent to my mood.  Yesterday I saw an old co-worker I hadn’t seen in years.  I’ve run into bits of writing that I created decades ago.   I’ve been going over old Capricornucopia scripts.   I’ve perused a few of my old trunk novels.

It made sense to come here.

I haven’t been writing every day.  I still struggle with that bit but I’m still here and I’m still writing.  Space Pirates is coming along.

The latest pause I think is mostly because I hit a cliffhanger and the next bit doesn’t feel like a bit that I can write in shots of one hundred or two hundred words in between doing other things, which otherwise works very well for me.   No, this next chapter isn’t something I can nibble away at, it’s something I need to chomp large bites out of with gusto.  Now there’s no reason I couldn’t have taken the time in the evening to get started, that’s on me.

Still, it’s nice to be sitting here, feeling the vibe of a hundred writing jams, writing group meets, friendly coffees and NaNoWriMo meetups from over the last decade.

I’ve done some of my very best writing right here in this seat.

I’m back now and writing again, right here in this seat.

It’s a really good place to come back and visit.   It’s a good place to come to and see what’s going to come out on the page.

It feels good.
