Well I’m 6K into my Camp NaNoWriMo WIP and despite my lack of a complete outline, the writing is going very well.
Today is where the challenge begins. It’s really really easy for me to write 2000 words a day when I am at home, even on a busy day.
Today I am at work.
Update: I managed to hit 1K over lunch! Success!
The first difference I noticed was my situation in the morning. I got up at my usual time, which left me 30 minutes before I had to get ready for work. Now 30 minutes is enough to get some words in. I can do 300-500 words, when properly motivated, in 30 minutes but this morning it just didn’t click.
So far my word count for today is zero.
Never fear, I will make my 2K, I’m just not sure how. If I have to push and put down 2000 words at 9pm tonight, I will, but I prefer not to do that.
Today, we’ll see what it takes to get comfortable working between my work PC and home PC. Sadly, work blocks off all the best and most elegant solutions. Dropbox, syncplicity and such are all blocked, so are google docs. Right now, I think I’ll be emailing myself a RAR file of my ywriter project morning and evening. This will have the added benefit of having frequent backup files in my gmail account so I don’t repeat the mistakes of my failed Revenant sequel.
(I said failed, because it remains incomplete. I had extensive notes and plot and characters outlined. I had completed 50K during a NaNoWriMo challenge and when time came to complete it, I had the usb key containing all the notes, my ideas and ending. While I still have the draft, I have no idea where I wanted to go from what I have.)
So. Off I go to set things up. My intention is to try and get 1000 words at lunch, and maybe a few hundred more here and there. We’ll see how it goes.
In re: Revenant sequel: Would having an “outsider” look at it help?
In re: Word count: *waves pompoms madly* YOU CAN DO EET!!!! 🙂
An outsider view might help 🙂 I’ll let you know when I get back to it. Although that might be only next year.
If you’d like, you could beta read Revenant when I’m done the editing.
As for the cheers and pompoms…*blush* thank you 🙂 Woo!
I’d be honoured… 🙂
