I’m giving up on 750words.com.
Please, readers, do not misunderstand. It’s a great idea and a great site. In theory. If you need motivation and you’re just starting out. Give it a try!
It’s not working for me right now. The site is too slow from the ISPs I use (it may not be 750words.com’s fault) and there’s something missing when I use it while working on larger projects. 750words was great when I was doing writing exercises or small writing prompts, but right now my stories tend to run long and my manuscript work doesn’t lend itself to the site’s format.
Instead, for the same kind of motivation I’ve started to use WriteChain on my iPhone. I installed it a while back and ignored it completely until Mur Lafferty mentionned it a few times on I Should Be Writing. I like that I can set my word count (Right now it’s at 500 words. I intend to raise that next month to 1000 words.)
If you have an iDevice of some sort, check it out! Tell ’em I sent you. I’m enjoying it.
Also, DO check out Mur Lafferty’s website and I Should Be Writing, next to Writing Excuses, it is the BEST podcast for wannabe writers to listen to.
I’m not ashamed to say that her podcast has inspired (in part) this web site’s direction and also is a big help in keeping me writing.
